The campaign “Human, Not Diagnosis” aims to promote the social integration of people with MHDs and a dialogue with society about creating a humane and understanding environment in Latvia. Our society lacks knowledge and understanding of people with MHDs and the ability to see them as equal members of the community. Within the campaign, we will discuss the myths that prevent society from seeing people with MHDs as equal members of the community.
People with MHDs are often considered dangerous for society, which is not true at all. Having no understanding of the abilities and limitations of people with MHDs, people are hesitant to hire them. There is also a lack of awareness between the differences of long-term social care at institutions and community-based social services.
